Per können si intende molto semplicemente l’essere in grado di fare qualcosa, al momento o in generale. Se vogliamo per esempio dire “so cavalcare”, diciamo “Ich kann reiten”. Inoltre vuol dire saper fare qualcosa, per esempio “er kann viele Sprachen (sprechen)” significa “sa parlare tante lingue”.
Per chiedere un permesso o chiedere gentilmente “posso…?” si usa dürfen.
Vediamo qualche esempio:

Per können si intende l’essere in grado di fare qualcosa, saper fare qualcosa. Serve anche come domanda retorica per evitare l’imperativo: Kannst/könntest du bitte (mal) kommen? invece di “komm!
